UX/UI design asks the questions and delivers the solutions that serve the foundations of a viable product. The Marketbuy website and e-commerce system were a testament to that principle. Through extensive research, collaborative scoping and in-the-field testing, Marketbuy's product became a viable tool for growers and buyers the world over.
Our Brief
We were asked to create a marketplace which would connect buyers to growers across the work.
Our Solution
We created a auctioning system with fully featured product management facilities that streamlined the sales process.
Our Impact
We helped the client to secure the funding they needed at every step with a system tested in the wild.

Marketbuy aimed to connect growers, brokers, and buyers directly, reducing the time from harvest to dinner plate. Another key objective was to ensure growers received fair payment for their produce through an auction process. We assisted The Designlab in comprehending the full scope of the project by collaborating with them and the client to design user processes for three main parties: buyers, sellers (growers), and brokers. By thoroughly understanding their needs, we crafted user journeys that facilitated smooth operations for each group.
Our solution
A crucial aspect of this project was designing the user experience for the customer admin dashboard. This dashboard allowed users to track their purchases and upload new products for sale. It also served as the payment and communication system for all parties involved in a sale, including Marketbuy’s staff when necessary.
The beating heart of the system, the dashboard area served as both public-facing and when logged in, a fully functional private area with extensive editing and product management facilities.
Our Impact
Working with a Laravel developer, we created the visual layer as a fully interactive set of templates, all browser-tested and ready for integration. This approach expedited the delivery timeframe, as it allowed the business logic to be developed simultaneously while the frontend was being created using the just-in-time approach. This project, which also included UX research conducted in the field, was one of our favourite collaborations at The Designlab.
Though COVID-19 eventually put the breaks on this project for the client, up to that point the work we had done helped the client to secure the funding they needed from their investors as every stage.
